Blog Dare Day 31: A few ways I can help others this year...

In general, I try to be the best person I can be. I try to help others out when I can. There are a few areas I am going to focus on throughout the year...

1. I can help my kids by working with them on their learning skills. Whether we take a little family field trip or we just work on counting, it certainly will help their little minds grow.

2. I can help my husband by keeping up my end. Our marriage is based on a partnership. Yes, he is the only one who works for pay, but it takes two to run a household.

3. I can reach out to those in need by giving away my children's gently used clothes, toys, and any other household items we no longer need.

Blog Dare Day 26: An annoying old wives' tale

Growing up, I played Dad's Club softball. So like any good ball player, I was constantly chewing gum. I definitely preferred Big League Chew Gum...in grape of course. Anybody else remember those big ole packets of gum?

I was also the coach's daughter, which definitely had it's ups and downs. One of the downsides was my dad pretty much watched my every move. I was constantly nagged about swallowing my gum. He told me that if I did, it wouldn't leave my stomach for seven years. Well, sorry Dad, Snopes.com cleared that one up! That old wives' tale is false.

Scripture Sunday

Joshua 24:15
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

My husband and I stayed up late last night watching the movie Courageous (from the makers of Fireproof). It's a movie that really hit home for me. I was raised in an evangelical Christian home, so faith has always been a big part of my life. This movie is really important for any father to watch, no matter the age of your child(ren). This movie is all about honoring your family and raising your children to love the Lord. I guess the movie has been on available on DVD since January 17th. My husband had seen the previews for it and saw it in the store, so we picked it up.

*I was not compensated by mentioning this movie on my blog at all. This is just a movie that I really enjoyed watching with my husband last night. :)

Sock eating monster, part I

I am so glad Friday is finally here! My husband's work schedule has been flip-flopped and so I've been parenting alone more than usual. My mornings have consisted of get all three kids up (now remember, they are 4.5, 2, and 16 months!), make breakfast, make sure everyone is sitting down to eat, dress everyone, bundle them up, and drive my 4 year old to preschool. Driving him to preschool is ludicrous in the first place because we live about 1.5 blocks away from it, but when it's six degrees outside and you have three kids in tow, you drive!

So as I am catching up on laundry from last week, I have discovered that everyone is missing socks except for me. Each child got a brand new package of socks in the fall and my husband and I recently bought new packages for ourselves. Do you think that stops the sock eating monster in our house? No! It's been absolutely frigid outside this week. A-Man, our 16 month old, has been stuck wearing whatever socks I could find for him just so we could get out the door.

I found a cute way to battle the sock eating monster in our house thanks to Pinterest.

I will keep you all updated as I figure out how I'm going to organize this idea in our house. Do you have any tips on battling sock (or other item) eating monsters in your home?
